Ray Conley, Age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 11, 2026
Ray was born in New Boston, Ohio to the late Leonard and Martha (Keeton) Conley on October 19, 1927. His mother died when he was a year old and he was raised by his grandparents. Ray graduated from Wheelersburg High School where he played basketball and was the drum major. He moved to Dayton where he met the love of his life, Maxine Hersman, on a blind date. Ray was employed by General Motors in 1947. He began his career in production and rose to the rank of General Supervisor of Maintenance. In his spare time, Ray became an auctioneer. After retirement from GM, he became the top salesman 5 years in a row at Simons Cadillac.
Ray’s outgoing personality led him to become a Resident Ambassador at The Patterson. No one was ever a stranger to Ray. He was well known for his positive attitude and his playful banter.
He was proceeded in death by his loving wife Maxine, his siblings: Leslie (Banty) Conley, Christine White, Roy Conley (identical twin), Gennoah Hammond, Vivian Griffith, and son-in-law Jerry Drodge.
Ray was very proud of his children Judy Drodge of Kettering, OH and Ken (Dani) Conley of Centerville, OH. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren Bryan, Tracey, Kevin, Jennifer (Jason), Jessica (Jeremy) and Shannon, great grandchildren Clever, Peyton, Indris, Thatcher, and Landon, and sister, Florence Weiland and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He was a role model and a well-respected man, who brought joy to all that knew him. A special thanks to Day City Hospice and Meeka, RN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Day City Hospice at (https://daycityhospice.com/donate/).
