Robert James Dickert

Robert James Dickert (“Jim”) was born on May 12, 1955, in Orlando, Florida and died on August 21, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida.

As a child, he and his older sister Patti enjoyed going on trips with their parents and learning all about camping from their dad. Jim was very active in the Boy Scouts and ultimately earned the highest and most difficult rank of Eagle Scout. He also played on the golf team in high school at Miramar High School in Miramar, Florida.

Jim attended the University of Florida from 1973 to 1977 and majored in finance. This is where his lifelong love of the Florida Gators football team began and everyone who knew Jim knew he was a Gator fan. He was also a Sigma Chi just like his father and he and Virginia would attend UF football games and enjoy going to parties at the fraternity house.

Jim first met his wife, Virginia, in 1969 when they were both 14 years old and going to school at Landon Junior High in Jacksonville. They remained friends all through high school and finally in their junior year of college they realized their love was real and were married after graduation.

Jim and Virginia have two daughters, Emily and Hilary. As a family, Jim enjoyed taking his family camping and to the mountains in North Carolina where they had a mountain house in Boone. Their beloved family pets have been Oscar, Tabitha, Chica, and now Banjo.

After college, Jim worked for Virginia’s family jewelry store, Barnett Jewelers, for 13 years before ultimately joining his father’s financial advising business at IDS (which later became known as Ameriprise Financial). Jim worked for Ameriprise for 33 years (from 1989 to 2022) where he helped hundreds of clients plan for their financial futures and his clients loved and respected him. For the majority of this time, he worked alongside his father until his father retired, and then his youngest daughter, Hilary joined his practice in 2015, and they worked together for 7 years before he officially retired.

Jim was a Christian and maintained a strong faith in Jesus his whole life. He and Virginia joined Mandarin Baptist Church in 1984 and are still members today. Jim was very involved at church for many years. He was a deacon, a leader on the church finance committee, and he regularly taught Adult Sunday School where his lessons on the book of Revelation were highly regarded. People who knew Jim would also remember he occasionally enjoyed running the sound system during services and when Virginia would direct shows for the annual music camp.

For hobbies, Jim loved skeet shooting, playing golf, going deep sea fishing, scuba diving, and woodworking. He also loved to read and drive his dream car, the Corvette.

Jim will always be remembered for his strong Bible teaching as well as his ability to help people with their money and guide and teach them in a way that made financial advice easy to understand. He will also be remembered for the way he loved his family and consistently showed up for everyone in his life.

We couldn’t have asked for a better husband/father/grandfather/brother, and we will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Roland Dickert (“Bob”) and Betty Belcher Dickert, and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Barnett Dickert, and their two daughters, Emily K. Gray (and her husband Reid Gray), and Hilary C. Bracken (and her husband Tyler Bracken), as well as his seven grandchildren: Delaney, Brayden, Ainsley, Ethan, Isabelle, Bradley, and John. He is also survived by his older sister, Patricia Cowart Page (and her husband Van Page).
