Rosa E. Alvarez

5 septembre 2026 Dignity Memorial

Rosa Alvarez, affectionately known as Pily to her family and friends, passed away on Saturday, September 5, on her 94th birthday.

Pily was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She shared 64 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Arnulfo Alvarez. Together, they raised three children: Letty Alvarez, Arnulfo "Pete" Alvarez, and Rosa "Viby" Carrillo.

Pily was especially blessed by the love and care of her son-in-law Ismael, and her daughter-in-law Jobie. Pily loved them both dearly and considered them not only family, but like her own children.

Their presence and unwavering love meant more to her than words can express, and their devotion to her will always be remembered and cherished by the family.

She was a proud and loving grandmother to Efren, Roman, Nadia, Janelle, Shawn, Karina, and Cyndi, and a cherished great-grandmother to Kaitlyn, Laayla, Ava, Moises, AJ, Xavier, and Novah.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy.

Throughout her life, Pily faced numerous health challenges, including stage-four melanoma, back surgery, heart attacks, colorectal cancer, and brain cancer. Despite these challenges, she remained remarkably strong, positive, and determined. Her courage and perseverance were an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Her family lovingly considered her their "shero" because of her incredible strength and determination to overcome every obstacle and continue living life to the fullest.

Pily loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful adventures with her husband, especially their trips to the beautiful beaches of Mexico. After her husband passed, she particularly enjoyed her visits to San Diego, where she loved exploring restaurants, visiting new places, and relaxing at different beaches.

She had a contagious happiness and a joyful spirit that could brighten any room. Pily loved her cocktails, Mexican food, and, most of all, sharing good times with the people she loved. She especially enjoyed singing along with mariachis, creating treasured memories from Mexico to Los Angeles.

Pily lived 94 remarkable years, overcoming challenges that would have defeated many, while continuing to find joy, laughter, music, good food, travel, and love along the way. Her life was a beautiful example of resilience, determination, and the power of a positive spirit.

Our beloved Pily was our shero. Her strength, determination, contagious happiness, and loving spirit will live in all of us forever.

May she rest peacefully, surrounded by the love she gave so freely to others.

In lieu of flowers donate to her favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Cancer Society.
