Mrs. Sarah Neal Hamer Baucom passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

She was born in Maxton, North Carolina, on May 25, 1930, to the late John W. Hamer and Sarah Ray Hamer.

Mrs. Baucom was preceded in death by her husband, Ransom Baucom; her sister, Patsy Ray Hamer; her brother, Robert Luther Hamer; and her niece, Laurie Hamer Adams.

Mrs. Baucom was a graduate of Maxton High School and Flora MacDonald College. She taught school for 39 years, including 28 years in Hoke County. Her former students often expressed their appreciation for the influence she had on their lives. She was especially proud of the honor of having a building at Hoke County High School named after her.

She served Raeford United Methodist Church in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher, circle chairperson, council member, and historian. She was especially honored to serve as one of the co-chairpersons of The Centennial History.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Hamer Morgan of Smithfield; her brother, John W. Hamer Jr.; one niece; two nephews; six great-nieces; three great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Raeford City Cemetery, 520 E. Central Avenue, Raeford, NC 28376.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Hoke County Public Library, 334 N. Main Street, Raeford, NC 28376, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Services are entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home.
