Sik-Lin Huang

Sik-Lin “Elliot” Huang (黄锡霖) was born September 15, 1947 in Guangzhou, China to Pue-Law Huang, a lawyer, and Wei-Ying Lee Huang, a teacher. He grew up with older brother Sik-Pang and younger brother Sik-Kan. The family moved to Hong Kong where he attended elementary school from K-2. The family then went to Hsinchu, Taiwan, where he attended Hsinchu Middle School (竹中18屆實驗班) before going to National Pingtung University, graduating near the top of his class. In 1971, he moved to the United States and received his Masters in Engineering from the University of Alabama. In 1973 he started his engineering career at Southern Services of Birmingham. He met and married Hui-Zhen Yang in 1984 and was a dedicated father to his two sons, Michael and John.

For over forty years Sik-Lin worked as a professional engineer focused on hydraulics and hydrology. His career moved him and his family from Alabama to Atlanta, Kansas City, Tulsa, and finally Houston, working on dams and drainage, a specialist at how water moves. After working at firms like Black and Veatch, LJA Engineering, and RG Miller, he opened his own company in 2008, H&H Engineering.

Sik-Lin always loved music, a piano being an early fixture in the home. He helped both sons practice instruments and would always ask them to join him in karaoke. He found joy in singing in choirs and was a dedicated member of the Houston Yellow River Choir (休斯敦黄河合唱团), leading the tenor section, and also sang with the 休士頓樂友合唱團.

He enjoyed gardening, keeping a garden wherever he lived. He traveled extensively for pleasure both domestically and internationally, throughout China and Taiwan, along the Danube, up to Alaska.

Sik-Lin passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the age of 79. He had been living life to the fullest, as usual; singing in the choir, eating out with friends, trading stocks (another passion), and making travel plans. It seems he felt no pain and simply left. He is survived by his wife, his two brothers, his two sons, and three grandchildren — Aidan, Felix, and Liam — who carry on his love for life, music, and good humor.
