In Loving Memory of Simon Chief Martin

It is with profound sadness, and deep gratitude for a life so well lived, that we announce the passing of Davis Simon Martin.

A proud Mi'gmaq man with deep roots in Gesgapegiag, Listuguj, and New Hampshire, he was most at home with his family, in his community, and casting a line on the Cascapedia River.

He dedicated much of his life to helping others through Alcoholics Anonymous, where his guidance helped many find and maintain sobriety. When he wasn't lending a helping hand, he could often be found fishing for salmon on the Cascapedia.

As he joins those he loved dearly in the spirit world, Simon leaves behind a family who loved him dearly, many lifelong friends, and countless individuals whose lives were forever changed.

For those who knew and loved him, don't be surprised if you feel his presence in the quiet current, the morning mist, or the tug on a fishing line along the Cascapedia River, where he will be laid to rest. In the Mi'gmaq way, we know that our loved ones do not leave us. They simply continue their journey into the spirit World, remaining close to those they love and to the lands and waters that shaped their lives.

May Simon journey peacefully, and may his spirit forever watch over the river he loved.
