Stephen Cloud

Stephen Cloud, age 78, died peacefully on September 21, 2026. A devoted father and husband, he leaves a long legacy of dedicated public service, artistic passion, laughter, and kindness.

Born on June 6, 1948, in Bellevue, Ohio, Steve brought light, unwavering support, and warmth to everyone he knew. He was drafted into the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and served honorably before returning home to build a life centered on family, faith, and community service.

For 40 years, Steve worked for the Norfolk Southern Railway, turning a lifelong fascination with trains into a rewarding career. His passion for the rails extended far beyond his profession; he was an active member of the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum and dedicated time volunteering for Rails-to-Trails, where he helped clear terrain and build new bike paths. As an avid cyclist, he loved riding his bike along Ohio trails with his family, combining his love for nature, cycling, and quality time with those he loved most.

Steve was deeply committed to civic life, serving as a member of the Bellevue City Council for a decade during the 1990s and early 2000s. A man of deep faith and quiet devotion, he was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue for many years, where he took communion to the sick, mentored newly engaged couples, and managed the church nursery with his wife, Cynthia. For the last ten years, he was a faithful member of St. Peter/St. Joan of Arc Parish.

A self-taught artist, Steve had a gift for wood and stone carving that he took immense joy in sharing. He taught carving classes in Bellevue and at the Westerville Senior Center. His creations stand as lasting monuments to his patience, creativity, and steady hands.

Above all else, Steve loved his family and friends. He and Cynthia shared 51 wonderful years of marriage, building a home anchored in love, generosity, and laughter. Known for his endless supply of puns, cheerful nature, and vibrant social spirit, Steve never missed a party or a meal out. He was an exceptionally kind, friendly, and encouraging presence – the kind of man who always offered a helping hand and was there for people when they needed him most. In his retirement, he poured his energy into helping his children and spending time with his adored grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will be held forever in their hearts.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Cloud; his four children, Tracy Cloud (Bryant), Erin Cloud, Patrick Cloud (Jessica), and Doug Cloud; his 10 cherished grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of his life; his sister, Ruth (Greg) Fries; and his brother, Rick Cloud. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Jr. and Eugenia; his sister Mary Drake, and his brother, Phil Cloud.
