It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terry Wayne Varney on May 21, 2026, in Wakefield, QC, after a long struggle with cancer. Born November 16, 1939, in Windsor Mills QC, he was the eldest son of Kenneth and Iris Varney. Terry grew up riding and loving horses with his brother Alan and sister Nela. He attended the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal in St. Hyacinthe, where he met and married Muriel M. Belanger.

After graduation in January 1964, Terry moved to Aylmer, QC, where he was one of only four veterinarians practicing large animal medicine and surgery in the Ottawa Valley. He briefly left practice in 1966 to recover from a rabid cat bite, then returned to teach equine medicine and surgery at the University of Montreal. In 1968, Terry resumed his practice in Aylmer, dedicating 54 years to caring for animals and their families. He was known for his kindness, professionalism, and dedication, caring for thousands of animals throughout his career.

He is survived by sister Nela, three sons Jonathan, Gregory (Jane), Justin (Julia), grandchildren Jacob (Yu), Vivienne, Charlotte, Graeme, Katherine, and great-grandson Yoen. Terry wished for no memorial service but left a legacy of compassion and service. His family thanks all caregivers who supported him during his final years. Donations to charity are encouraged in his memory. His image and messages of sympathy reflect respect and admiration from the community.
