Tracy Lynn Ambrozic Happer, 54, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born June 28, 1972, in her beloved hometown, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Tracy carried her Pittsburgh roots and her love of Penn State with her throughout her life. She graduated from Penn State University in May 1994 with a major in Speech Communication and a minor in Business. A proud Penn Stater through and through, she treasured her years with the Lion Ambassadors and the lifelong friendships she made there. Penn State football remained one of her great loves.
After college, Tracy lived in Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., and New York City before making the move to Frankfurt, Germany to join her husband. She married Marshall Happer IV in Pittsburgh on July 29, 2006. Tracy spent 11 years in Frankfurt, Germany where she worked at Rhein-Main Air Base and Hainerberg Elementary School. Tracy and Marshall traveled extensively throughout Europe, Africa and Asia, filling those years with adventures that Tracy later recounted in her own unforgettable style. After returning to Pittsburgh in 2013, Tracy and Marshall eventually made their home in Jacksonville, Florida in 2014.
Tracy lived life at full volume. Colorful, funny, creative, generous and fiercely loving, she brought an unmistakable energy wherever she went. Her radiant smile could light up a room, and her infectious laugh made it hard not to laugh along with her. She gave enormous hugs, wore bright colors and animal prints with flair, and loved Otter Lake Canada, the beach, theater, photography, travel, food, Penn State and Steelers football.
No description of Tracy would feel complete without her stories. Tracy never simply told you what happened—she took you along for the ride. Her stories wandered through side plots, backstories and seemingly unrelated detours before, somehow, everything came together in the end. She could take over a conversation completely and keep it going for hours yet somehow making everyone around her feel seen and included . . . and thoroughly entertained.
Her Catholic faith anchored her life. In Jacksonville, she became active at St. Paul’s and St. Peter’s Churches, where she served as a leader in the Walking With Purpose Bible Study Group.
Most of all, Tracy made people feel loved, remembered and special. She noticed what people liked and remembered the smallest details. Guests in her home might find a personalized collection of favorite snacks and drinks waiting for them simply because Tracy wanted them to feel cared for. Whatever she did, she did wholeheartedly.
Tracy was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Rita Ambrozic and her cherished cats, Bo and Grizzy, who brought tremendous joy to her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Marshall Happer IV; her loving sister, Susan (Ambrozic) Banas; brother-in-law, Michael Banas; niece, Paige Banas; nephew, Sean Banas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whose lives she made bigger and brighter.
Tracy felt great joy and peace by the ocean and loved a good sunrise. Fittingly, she passed just after sunrise over Jacksonville Beach, with a peaceful smile on her face.
A Memorial in Jacksonville and celebration of life in Pittsburgh arrangements will be held at a future date.
