Walter Baldomero Martinez was born on September 21, 1937, in La Habana, Cuba, to Baldomero José Martinez Diaz and Maria Josefa Amparo Rodríguez. He studied civil construction and architecture, meeting his wife Olga Justa at the Havana School of Arts and Trades. The couple married in 1961 and emigrated to Miami due to political turmoil in Cuba. Walter became a prominent architect, known for designing his and Olga's dream home in Coconut Grove and serving as president of the South Florida chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
He was deeply committed to his family, loved to travel and share experiences, and was dedicated to maintaining his Spanish heritage. Walter passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, after battling Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his children Gabriel and Teresita, grandchildren, and other family members.
