William Alexander McWhirter Jr.

18 avril 2026 Dignity Memorial

William “Bill” McWhirter, Jr. a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and man of faith, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Bill will be remembered for his strength, courage, and deep relationship with the Lord, qualities that guided him throughout his life and touched all who knew him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Johnnie McWhirter, and his son in law, Eric Hartis.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Vickie McWhirter; his children, Kimberly (Mark) Hartis and Shane Hartis; and his cherished grandchildren, Zachary (Ashley) Hartis, Ashley (Michael S.) Gildersleeve, Amanda Hartis, Emily (Harrison) McKellar, Holly Hartis, and Katelynn Hartis. He also leaves behind his treasured great grandchildren, Barrett Hartis, Kai Hartis, and Eric McKellar.

Bill is also survived by his siblings, Gail (Johnny) Ferguson, Dwayne (Yvonne) McWhirter, and Lawson (Sherri) McWhirter, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

From an early age, Bill found his relationship with the Lord and carried that faith with him throughout his life. He served his country in the United States Army with pride. After his service, he worked as a tire supply salesman with Myers Tire Supply before following his entrepreneurial spirit to open and operate his own business, McWhirter Supply. Even after retirement, Bill continued to serve his community as a bus driver for CMS, a role he took great pride in.

Bill was a hardworking man who enjoyed the simple things in life, including fishing, golfing, and traveling, especially when it meant spending time with those he loved.

His life reflects the words, “he bowed his head to Jesus and he stood for Uncle Sam… his greatest contribution is the ones you leave behind,” a line from a song by Alan Jackson, which captures the way Bill lived with faith, service, and deep love for his family.

Above all, Bill lived as a reflection of his faith, strong, courageous, and grounded in God’s word. His life echoed the promise found in Scripture:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Bill’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
