Betty Jane Dunbar Hines, 76, of Pearl, Mississippi, passed away on June 22, 2026.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, to George W. Dunbar Sr. and Olga Rychen Dunbar, Betty spent her childhood in Nashville before making Mississippi her home for most of her adult life. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western and Eastern Kentucky Universities, where she was a proud member of the Phi Mu Sorority since 1969.
A gifted artist, dedicated teacher, and compassionate advocate, Betty devoted her life to serving others. She was the founder of Adult and Adolescent Survivors of Abuse (ASOA), reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping those in need. Betty was also a devoted member of All Saints Episcopal Church, where her faith inspired a life of service to her church and community.
Known for her independence, strength, and unwavering determination, Betty touched countless lives through her creativity, kindness, and generosity. Her legacy will live on in the many people she inspired and supported throughout her life.
She is survived by her son, Marc Hines (Daniela), brother, George W. Dunbar Jr. (Betsy); and three beloved grandsons, Samuel, Thomas, and Edward.
