David C Wood Sr.

David C. Wood Sr., 87, of Knoxville, passed away July 7, 2026.

He is preceded in death by father, Thomas V. Wood; mother, Lona Wood Bowerman; son, David C. Wood Jr.; brothers, Tom and Roy; and his sisters, Doris, Pearl, Bobbie, Vivian and Mary.

David is survived by: his wife, Doris Wood; daughters, Karen (Geoff) Anderson, Kim (Robert) Roche, Tracey (Darrell) Walker; brother, Jim Bowerman; step-sons, Kenneth and Greg Goddard; grandchildren, David (Heather), Ashley, Pete (Whitney), Emily (John), Natalie (Dustin), Rachel (Tyler), Matthew (Katelyn), Gracie (Dustin) Cigi, and Lil Kenny; 16 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Dee Hixon, and special friends Don Rackard & Bruce Ogle.

David served in the TN National Guard from 57-63, he was also a 60 Year Member of the Bright Hope Masonic Lodge 557 F & AM since 1966, and was a 32nd degree. He was an original staff member of Doyle High school when it opened in 1966, where he taught Auto Body til 2001 (South-Doyle 1991-2001). Vocational - Auto Body Teacher & Coach. David also served as Chief of the Knoxville Police Reserve Unit 1970s and worked with the Knox County Sheriff's Office for 8 years. He served as a Lifetime Member of Blue Knights Chapter TN-III Law Enforcement since 1984. After retiring from South-Doyle, he went to work for Massey Electric as Safety Manager for 10 plus years before retiring.

A Receiving of Friends and Family will be held on Saturday, July 11th from 5-7 PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 PM, at Berry Highland West Funeral Home, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932.
