James L. Carter

James L. "Jim" Carter, 82 of Indianapolis Indiana passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. Jim was born on October 26, 1943, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky to the late Denton and Bernice Carter. He graduated from Tompkinsville High School in 1962 and went on to become a Journeyman with RR Donnelly & Son where he worked until his retirement in Crawfordsville, Indiana. On July 12, 1964, Jim, married the love of his life, Barbara Harlan Carter, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Carter; his children, Mrs. Vicky Manifold (Sonny) of Whitestown, Indiana, Ms. Stacey Purcell of Bethel, Connecticut and Mrs. Chanel Cunningham (Scott) of Carmel, Indiana. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Gann (Robert) of Sevierville, Tennessee. He was proceeded in death by his brother Joseph Carter. A Memorial service will be held at Leppert Mortuary and Crematory Services in Carmel Indiana on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 11 AM.
