Jerold Nemetz, accomplished attorney and well-loved family man, died May 26th 2026.
Born November 19, 1946, he grew up in Amityville with his father Arthur, mother Sylvia and sister Karen. He played clarinet in the marching band and helped his father in the family laundry business.
He attended college at Hofstra University and CW Post and graduated New York Law School later opening his own law practice in 1976 on Broadway in Amityville where he worked for over 50 years. He was also the Assistant District Attorney in the Town of Babylon and the Village of Amityville Prosecutor for several years. Always involved in the community, he was elected President of the Amityville School Board and also served on the board of the THAW program (Talented Handicapped Artists Workshop).
He married Linda Kronovet in 1970 and they had one son, Brent Sterling in 1973.
He enjoyed boating and sailing and riding his motorcycle across country with friends.
He and his wife Renee traveled all over the world exploring the Galapagos Islands, went on an African Safari in Tanzania and went salmon fishing in Alaska.
In later years, he and Renee spent their time between wintering in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and summers in their home in East Islip.
He loved practicing law, helping people and being a part of the Long Island community.
He is survived by his sister Karen, niece Ann and her husband Tom and children Anthony, Sara and Clara, wife Renee, son Brent and his wife Kristi and triplet granddaughters Haddi, Sallie and Alivia of Manhattan along with Renee’s son Eric, his wife Jennifer and children Jake, Josh and Brooke and Renee’s daughter Randi, her husband Tim and son Ryan.
Burial is in Wellwood Cemetery with Rabbi Demant officiating.
